About Our Speaker
When Rob Norman decided to acquire the marketing media company City Publications Richmond in Spring 2013, he had one simple goal – to help Richmond-area small and midsize businesses grow and succeed. After spending 25 years in the corporate world leading global communications and marketing programs for multinational companies like Honeywell, Wyeth and Pfizer, it was time for him to shift gears and focus on helping businesses and brands much closer to home.
City Publications Richmond is part of a national media franchise that provides multimedia marketing solutions, including upscale direct mail programs, email marketing, website development, SEO services, Internet advertising, QR codes, mobile marketing, call tracking and more. The company specializes in targeting affluent homeowners who have discretionary income and are more likely to buy their clients’ products and services.
Celebrating his first year of business this May, Norman has secured more than two dozen clients and is well on his way to establishing his company as a premier direct marketing and advertising leader for Richmond-area businesses. He attributes much of this success to a lesson he learned during his communications career spanning more than two decades – “Be distinguished, or get extinguished!” Norman understands the appeal of being different in business and how individuals and companies can differentiate themselves from their competitors to come out on top in the marketplace. Norman will share experiences from his business start-up as well as his corporate communications career on the importance of differentiation in an increasingly competitive business environment.
A Richmond native, Norman grew up in Mechanicsville, VA, and attended Hampden-Sydney College and Virginia Tech, where he earned his communications/PR degree. He earned his IABC accreditation in 1993 and served as IABC/Richmond Chapter President in 1997.
Having worked in diverse industries, including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, fibers, and plastics manufacturing, Norman brings a broad perspective on marketing communications strategy to each of his clients. Fortune 500 companies entrusted him to support, defend and grow their multimillion-dollar brands, and now he enjoys earning the same trust and respect from Richmond business owners who continually rely on City Publications Richmond to achieve their sales and marketing goals.
